Preparing Your Business For Hurricane Season

6/9/2020 (Permalink)

SERVPRO of Cecil County is prepared for any storm damage that may occur in our Elkton and local area during this hurricane season.  With the season officially here, it is critical to be prepared for what the bad weather can bring to your home or business.  Having a plan in place for you and your employees is essential in the event of an emergency for proper safety protocol as well as actions to take when the storm is over.

In the event of severe weather due to a hurricane, please remember to create and share a plan with all employees and ensure they are aware of the proper steps to take.  Often, businesses hire an inspector who can identify any issues or structural damage that can significantly impact a facility in the event of a large storm.  Issues such as roof leaks, loose gutters, and broken pipes can all lead to severe water damage and should be fixed immediately.  An inspector can also ensure that all windows and doors are sealed tightly and safe for strong winds.

Once your business is declared safe and any structural damage has been repaired, be sure to remove any outdoor safety hazards such as yard signs.  Continue to listen for weather alerts in your local area and decide on a plan that is best for you and your staff.

Should you discover that your home or business is suffering from water, storm or structural damage, our restoration professionals are ready to help.  SERVPRO of Cecil County offers 24/7 emergency services for destruction due to hurricanes, flooding and other severe weather.  We handle any size water, fire, mold or storm disaster, and we take pride in helping our customers to overcome an often overwhelming situation.  To learn more about our services for your business during this hurricane season and beyond, please give us a call at 410-620-3322.

Fire Safety Tips to Protect Your Restaurant Business

3/18/2019 (Permalink)

Restaurants always have the risk of fire damage since heat is a key ingredient in this industry.  There are actions you can take to prevent this risk by following these steps.

  • Install an automatic fire-suppression system in the kitchen. In the event of a fire, this system will release chemicals to put out the flames and shut off the electrical power to other cooking equipment to prevent further damage.
  • Keep a fire extinguisher in the kitchen. A Class K fire extinguisher should be used in the kitchen, while a Class ABC fire extinguisher should be used for any other fires not located in the kitchen.
  • Regularly maintain all cooking equipment and exhaust systems.
  • Train your employees in proper fire prevention techniques.

Following these procedures will save your restaurant from devastating fire damage and keep your business, employees and customers safe. If your business does suffer from fire loss, contact the fire restoration professionals at SERVPRO of Cecil County.  Our emergency services can get your business back up and running quickly.

Before your carpets need our services, there are actions you can take to keep them looking clean on your own.  To maintain the look and cleanliness of your carpets, vacuuming should be done regularly.  Other steps you can take to keep your carpets looking new include stain removal, pilating the carpet to prevent matting, moving furniture around to change traffic patterns, and using mats to limit the amount of soil on the carpet.

Water Damage at Residential Community

7/12/2018 (Permalink)

Exterior of affected units

Did you know that SERVPRO of Cecil county is a 24/7 restoration company?  One of our tag lines "Faster to any size disaster" was certainly put to the test when we got this phone call from a commercial residential apartment complex.

At approx. 9:30pm we received an emergency phone call from a property in North East.  Cliff Masscotte, our Marketing Manager, was first to the scene at approx 10:00pm.  He walked with the Maintenance Manager to assess the damage until the crew and project managers arrived.  Once they were on scene, we had our machines up and running to start the drying process.

A total of 6 units were affected and demolition had to be done from water damage.  SERVPRO of Cecil County will be handling the repairs to the units as well with our construction division.  Once completed, we will have made it "Like it never even happened"!

Homeless Encampment Clean-out

7/12/2018 (Permalink)

Homeless Encampment

SERVPRO of Cecil County recently received a phone call from a commercial business asking us if we did clean-ups and clean-outs, our answer:  Of Course!

Upon asking further questions we realized this would not be the typical clean-up job.  This commercial business wanted us to clean up a homeless encampment close to their facility.  As you can see from the picture, it was quite the job.  However, this is only one picture of the many that we took.  To see the rest, check out our Facebook page HERE.

We did treat this as a bio-hazard condition based on the amount of material we had to move.  We had 2 bobcats, 5 dumpsters, and a dozen crew members who tackled this job and not only helped our valued commercial client, but cleaned up nature as well!
